Thank you, critical thinking.

I don't know what the average public school syllabus is like today, but if the state of our nation's public education system is any clue, I'm going to guess it's pretty thin on things like critical thinking. Especially because I personally believe the devolving public school system has turned into a subversive training ground for the US military, but I digress.

Reading my favorite feminist blog, I learned a little more about crisis pregnancy centers, which are essentially anti-choice clinics that appear to treat young women like they're German Jews in the '30s. (Okay, that last one was prolly a little out of line. There aren't pregnant teens being thrown into ovens. I apologize to any Survivors that might be reading. BUT! persecution all the same...)

And hence, I was led to Real Alternatives, an actual pregnancy crisis helpline. And I didn't even have to go that far into the site to be completely and utterly appalled. And I'm not even talking about their tactics of not laying out all the options for pregnant teens in a frank and neutral manner. I'm talking about spelling and grammar. In their drop-down menus right there on the front page: "Think Your Pregnant?" and "Abortion Proceedures." How can this organization expect to be taken seriously with gross grammatical errors such as these? And that's just the homepage! If I could stomach the bullshit of an organization like this I'd look further for more, but at this point I think I'll just rest easy knowing that, as if their politics didn't make them so, they're a bunch of ignorant twats. I just hope the teenage girls who seek out help with their pregnancy will be discerning enough to not trust these people with helping them make any kind of informed decision that will affect them for the rest of their life. Of course, with the public education system in shambles and the statistics showing that teen pregnancy more often than not is a product of misinformation and lack of education, I have a feeling the skills in critical thinking might be lacking.

Addendum: Okay, I went in to the site further. And I would like to quote, under "Telling Your Boyfriend": what you do is YOUR decision.

OH REALLY? See, that would imply that the people behind this operation believe you have a choice. But they don't. They're going to dissuade you from having an abortion and probably give you false or misleading information about abortions and not allow you to make an informed decision based on honest facts. Go FRAK yourselves, Real Alternatives. GRRRR.
